Called the 'Driver's Way', the game is modelled on Monopoly, with players having to move pieces modelled like classic cars. To advance round the board, players must answer questions on real-life traffic rules. The game's makers and road safety officials hope the new board game will help reduce fatalities on the African country's dangerous roads.
2. Cheltenham joins growing list of market towns to be honoured with Monopoly board
The town is the first in Gloucestershire to be awarded the honour, and joins Milton Keynes as the newest addition to the Hasbro brand (as we reported in April). Its makers are appealing to locals to suggest places to occupy the board, with the racecourse being eyed as a likely addition to the game. Which town will be next?
3. iPad game raises huge sum through Kickstarter
Australian games developers have raised more than £100,000 as work gathers pace on an entirely original game for the iPad, due to be released later this year. Melbourne-based League of Geeks say their project, Armello, is a "digital board game" rather than an app conversion of an existing board game. The team first developed a new physical board game, not released to the general public, before turning it into a working iPad version. The game already has more than 8,000 like on Facebook. Good luck to them!
London's newest board game collective will make a return to the capital with it's second meet-up on 14 May. Board Game Club, w hich markets itself as a "speakeasy-esque grown-up games-night for London’s in-the-know crowd", will gather at Brew Dog in Shoreditch for a second event following the success of their first meet-up last month. London needs more board games events and we hope this latest effort does well. Access to the club is through a guest-list - email [email protected] to get involved or find out more details about future events.
